Goddess Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth, abundance, and good fortune. She is the consort of Lord Vishnu. She is also called Sri and is endowed with six auspicious qualities or gunas. Whenever Vishnu descends on earth as Rama and Krishna, She accompanies Him as Sita and Rukmani. Lakshmi is depicted wearing a red saree on Lotus with an owl as her vehicle, She is a symbol of fortune, self-knowledge, and spiritual liberation.
Her four hands represent the four goals of human life which are dharma, artha, kama, and moksha.
She emerged during the Sagar Manthan (churning of the oceans). She is worshipped for blessings of fertility, fortune, purity, beauty, power, generosity, auspiciousness, grace, grandeur, bliss, and riches. The word Lakshmi is derived from the Sanskrit word Lakshya, meaning goal or aim. Goddess Lakshmi bestows the knowledge and understanding to fulfill all the aims of life and attain success.
